Renowned Swiss photographer Christian Heeb will formally open his new Cascade Center of Photography with a public reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 3.
Heeb and his wife and partner, Regula, have been residents of Bend since 1998. They have published more than 100 books on destinations all over the globe, showcasing their photos of nature, travel and world cultures.
Trained as an architect before pursuing his career as a photojournalist, Heeb built Rancho las Hierbas as their American home, on the edge of the sage-and-juniper desert southeast of Bend, in 1999.
Heeb will present a showing of his new portrait series, “99 People of Central Oregon,” at the Cascade Center opening.
I’ll be there as well, and with my photographer-partner Barb Gonzalez, will present an illustrated talk on our recent travels around the Pacific Northwest. In spring or summer, I plan to teach a travel-writing workshop at the Cascade Center.
Respected local photographers Robert Agli and Chris Mather, who will join Heeb in teaching photography workshops, also will attend the opening.
The Cascade Center will include a photo gallery and studio space for commercial and portrait photographers. It is located at 390 S.W. Columbia St., Suite 110, in Bend. For more information, call 541-241-2266 or visit www.heebphoto.com
