Hola! Opens a Sunriver Restaurant

Marcos Rodriguez

Central Oregon’s best Mexican-Peruvian restaurant is coming to Sunriver — today.

Hola!, already well established in Bend at the eastside’s Forum Shopping Center and at the Shops at the Old Mill District, has taken over the former Trout House.  A grand opening celebration, with free food samples, begins at 5 p.m.

Marcos Rodriguez, Hola!’s owner and executive chef, is thrilled.

“I love that the bigger space allows us to have a broader menu,” said the native of Guadalajara, Mexico.  “And being on the water — you cannot say ‘no’ to that!”

The spacious restaurant sits directly upon the upper Deschutes River, a mere pelota’s throw from the Sunriver Marina.  Patrons are already making special-events bookings into the summer months.

And while the creative menu served at the Bend stores will carry to Sunriver — it was designed by Rodriguez and chef de cuisine Jose Rivas, born of Peruvian and Brazilian parents — the new restaurant will have several additional items.

Quinoa-crusted ling cod

Among them:

  • Causas (potato cakes) served as an entrée with different toppings, including crab salad on purple potatoes, prawns in a chili sauce, and ahi tartare with a creamy chipotle sauce.
  • Quinoa-crusted ling cod on risotto on a bed of spinach, tomatoes and other vegetables.
  • Seafood paella, including clams, mussels, calamari, scallops and cods in a casserole-like blend.
  • Lamb chops cooked in Mirror Pond Pale Ale with a cilantro sauce.

With a greater family emphasis a key element in the Sunriver move, Hola! is expanding its dessert offerings to include dishes like a huckleberry mango cobbler.

Marcos said the restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.  Beginning April 30, the weekend after Easter, he will serve Saturday and Sunday morning breakfasts — something the Bend Hola!s have never done.

The bar will continue to emphasize margaritas, with one of Central Oregon’s best tequila selections. But Marcos said he’ll also feature fruit mojitos in Sunriver and expand his wine selection.

For tonight’s grand opening, scheduled 5 to 9 p.m., Green Energy Transport is offering shuttle service between Hola! in the Old Mill District and the Sunriver Hola!
